Westfield State University's email policy is FIRE's Speech Code of the Month for May 2023.
The policy allows the school to punish students and faculty whose emails include “derogatory or inflammatory statements and/or idle gossip.” Banning these types of expression calls for viewpoint discrimination, which is absolutely prohibited at a public school.
