The University of South Dakota's "Poster and Advertising Policy" earns FIRE's August Speech Code of the Month.

The policy states that all posters which students post throughout the campus must be sponsored by an officially recognized student organization and must include the sponsor’s name. In addition, the policy requires that the content of the posters pertain to “promoted activit[ies]” and that administrators review the posters for approval before they are actually posted.

Join FIRE in urging the University of South Dakota to revise this policy so that USD can better honor its First Amendment obligations to its students.
