Too often, the people who know that book bans and censorship are wrong stay silent. They’re afraid of causing trouble. They don’t want to risk getting involved.
That’s where we come in. It takes a movement to protect everyone’s free speech. At FIRE, that’s what we do. We’re building a coalition that preserves freedom of expression for everyone — the people we agree with and the people we disagree with, too.
We’ve bought billboards, led public advocacy campaigns, and lobbied officials to reverse book bans. We’ve argued free speech cases in court, and we’re America’s go-to source for information — and protection — of our First Amendment rights.
Our approach is simple: As long as book bans are a threat, we’ll push back against them and promote free speech and artistic freedom.
In the fight over free expression and open dialogue, the book-banners aren’t backing down. We won’t either. And we hope you’ll stand with us.
Let’s ban censorship, not books.
